How much sound dampening do I need

We are always asked, "how many acoustic panels do I need, In my room or restaurant?"

1) there are online calculators you can use to figure this out.

2) try to cover 1/3 of one wall and 1/3 of another wall or ceiling.

3) borrow our loaner panels to figure out how much dampening you need. It's easy we can drop off 10 or 11 acoustic panels to any location in the GTA.

How important is using a material with a high NRC rating

People are after acoustic treatment that has the highest NRC rating, usually a rating between .9 and .95.

Sometimes the acoustic treatment that you have chosen, maybe based on esthetics, and has a lower acoustic rating then standard acoustic media.

My advice is.. If product you have chosen has a low acoustic rating....simply apply more acoustic treatment.. It's a matter of .. If you can't get the quality.. Then go with quantity.

Sound proofing vs sound dampening

Here at TheQuietRoom.ca we get a lot of calls from people that want to stop the noise traveling from one room in their office or house to another. Unfortunately we can't help with that issue.

To solve this type of noise problem, "Soundproofing" is required, which involves a considerable amount of money, and some construction effort.

Watch how Mike Holmes addresses this problem on YouTube, by soundproofing a wall in a residential home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_x6DE9RAL0

At TheQuietRoom.ca we provide sound dampening solutions, that essentially reduce the sound level in a room, where the sound was generated in that room. We stop the reflection of sound in a room.

For example, a restaurant or office that is very loud, usually has many; hard, flat, reflective, parallel surfaces.

Sound waves in these rooms, bounce from surface area to surface area, creating echo, and reverberation, making the room sound much louder than it really is.

Unless sound is either "diffused" or "absorbed", sound will continue to bounce within a room for up to 12 seconds (i.e. the tests we did in a squash court): https://youtu.be/B0_Dva7YVlc

TheQuietRoom.ca installs acoustic panels that absorb the energy of these sound waves in a room, which essentially reduces the perceived sound level by about 35% to 45%.
